Q. I am such a huge fan of yours, I love reading the Q&A it really helps me a lot. I am considering buying a machine, a home machine. There is tons of stuff out there but I want something that will burn calories but low impact and works the whole body. I thought about a rider, any suggestions? Monica in N.J.
A. Monica! Owning a piece of home gym equipment is a great way to burn calories the easy way! Simply walk over and use. No traffic, no commuting and no having to run home from the gym to shower. Please check out the website www.fitnessblowout.com as they have several different workout machines to consider. I personally own and recommend the Nordic Track and also the Stair Climber. Both burn maximum calories and are easy on your joints. The advantages of these machines include alternating your speed and intensity based on your fitness level. Working out at home could never be easier!
Q. I want to follow a diet, which is easy to follow, no measuring, and no counting involved. If I wanted to replace two meals, I think I can handle dinner but what meal replacements would you recommend? Kimmy J. Birmingham, UK
A. Hi Kimmy! First of all, take the word “diet” out of your vocabulary! What are the first 3 letters of diet? Yes-DIE! And we don’t want you to associate getting in shape with dying! Therefore, use the powerful words “food plan”. This means you are going to plan your meals, and stop eating “accidentally” like most of us do. Whatever we find, we eat! We are know going to eat smart! I love the Jay Robb line of nutritious protein shakes, because the cows are not injected with the bovine growth hormone, making for a very clean shake! Enjoy!
Q. What diet pills do you recommend, I am scared to hop over to GNC and just grab what seems to be “hot,” or “in.” but I need some help with my metabolism? Do you use diet pills? Lynn B. North Hollywood, CA
A. Hello Lynn! My world wide fitness friends ask this commonly asked question to me every day. The truth is I don’t believe in fat burners as they do more harm than good. They can blow out your adrenals over time leaving you with less energy than you had before. They also mess with your metabolism, leading you to gain more weight when you stop taking them. The more natural way of safely giving your metabolism a little kick is the way to go! To do this, drink green tea or take green tea extract. This more holistic method is way more gentle and loving to your body. In addition, green tea is packed with antioxidants and helps fight cancer! How can you beat that?
Q. How did you get that fabulous body? Bernard, NY, NY
A. Wow, what a question! Just like Santa Clause, I have a big bag of tricks that have helped me achieve and maintain my body. Simply put, I believe in exercise, eating right, and proper rest!
Q. How do I stay in shape and eat well while being 6 months pregnant? What exercises should I be following? Samantha Knoll Kansas City, Kansas
A. Samantha, what a great question that I can relate to. When I was pregnant I enjoyed light aerobics, outdoor walks, spinning at a low level, and also non-competitive weight training with lighter weights. I performed my abdominal exercises by standing up and bringing my legs and knees up, therefore I did not place any pressure on my baby or lower back. The most important thing to know is what you love the most and to do it! Being pregnant does not mean you stop exercising, but rather you make adjustments to suit your every growing baby and belly! Just remember to drink lots of water, stop if you feel overly challenged, and to take it easy!
Q. What does a sudden swoosh mean? Barbra Kline Perry Hall, MD
A. This is a great question Barbara. You got me there! I have no idea! But I will research it!
