Pick up any copy of Popular Science or Popular Mechanics and you’ll quickly see what gender the magazines are marketed towards once you see all of the ads for erectile dysfunction medication and hair growth remedies. In the words of James Brown, it’s a man’s world. But female technophiles can rejoice: Gina Hughes, the Techie Diva, has you covered.
There are some blatantly feminine gadgets featured on the blog. The Pink PC Kit boasts a bright pink mouse, mouse pad, and Bluetooth dongle. The metallic pink Taser C2 looks like a clunky disposable razor but packs 50,000 volts of personal protection. Most of the products featured are more universally handy. There is a waterproof Ipod case, the forthcoming Fujifilm FinePix Z, and the latest in digital picture frames.
The gadgets run the gauntlet from the truly handy to the truly unique. Let’s just say that the V/ a. .g. r. a. lamp is named after an erectile dysfunction medication for a reason. Ms. Hughes delivers the latest and greatest in technology via her blog. The posts are written concisely but on some products assume that the reader has at least a basic knowledge of technology (mostly on things such as the Network Attached Storage, which a newbie probably wouldn’t be seeking out anyway).

Ms. Hughes credits a two year stint of living in Japan for instilling her love of technology. Moving to Okinawa after completion of Marine Corps boot camp, she found herself immersed in a world of constantly evolving hi-tech products she had never been exposed to before. The influence of all of the great computers, cell phones, and other gadgets inspired Ms. Hughes to take up website design. She continued to pursue website design when she moved back to the United States and established her Techie Diva site. Her advice can also be found at Yahoo! Tech where she is an advisor.
She Unlimited, The Daily Confection had the pleasure of interviewing Gina Hughes about what products are the best for your home, work, and life and what knowledge every woman should possess about technology.
