A Rarity Indeed: Rare Bird Finds

Rare Bird Finds is the blog to see if you need assistance in locating products of an obscure and/or unique nature on the internet. What kind of items classify as obscure and/or unique? There are kitschy-cool mosaic printed storage containers, dinosaur puzzle cookie cutters, and a product called aromacreme that is basically a lotion that acts as deodorant.
Just on the homepage, I found a product that is after my heart: Crayola’s Audio Ruler. As I seem to have missed the day in school where they taught you to measure things accurately, a talking ruler (it says the measurement in quarter-inch increments) is right up my alley. These items, and most of the others featured, are extremely reasonable in price.
Another fantastic aspect of Rare Bird Finds is their features. In Fab 5 Friday, a reader or designer gets to play blogger and select their five favorite finds out on the web. It’s the cyber world equivalent of peeking into someone else’s shopping cart (which you know you’ve done). Tacked on to the end of the five finds is the guest bloggers favorite item they have found through the Rare Bird site.
Yes, that makes six items but Fab 6 Friday isn’t as alliterative and catchy. There is also the brand new feature of Ask the Birdies. In the most recent question (only the second ever done) someone requested unique wedding guest gifts that stayed in the $2 to $4 per person range. The reader wanted something funky that people would actually use or want. The Birdies give an impressive eighteen linked-to item suggestions. My favorite is the idea of planting small flowers in Asian brocade boxes that are available at a price of $15 for a set of 6. If you thought Peter had some magic beans you should check out the advised “love bean”. It is a tiny bean planted in a pot that sprouts up after a week. The sprout that grows has the word Love written across it.
Giant not included.

Hi, Brandy:
You’re right about the Rare Bird site; it’s great.
But the boy with the beans is Jack, I think!
