When Blake Lewis sang “Time of the Season” by the Zombies and “You Give Love A Bad Name” by Jon Bon Jovi during the 6th Season of American Idol, I thought most emphatically that he would be the next American Idol. After a couple of votes and a sore right thumb from pressing the endless numbers on the phone, Blake lost the coveted title to Jordin Sparks. But Blake Lewis continues to be my American Idol.
Blake’s most notable performance would be his beatboxing rendition of “How Deep Is Your Love?” by the Bee Gees, which received a standing ovation from the audience and judge Paula Abdul, who remarked “that brought down the house”! Since then, Blake had been predicted to be “front-runner”, his beatboxing and scat singing skills a frequent style shown in the competition. He was often praised for his originality and undaunted efforts in his own renditions of some of the music industry’s solid and noteworthy songs (Jon Bon Jovi’s You Give Love A Bad Name, Maroon 5’s She Will Be Loved).
Post American Idol, Blake has made several television show appearances, and took part in the “American Idols Live! Tour 2007 together with all the top ten contestants. He signed a deal with Arista Records/19 Recordings on August 24, 2007 and his album is aptly titled A.D.D (Audio Day Dream). This is his first “electro-funk-soul-pop” studio album which was released on December 4, 2007. Billboard’s review on the album claims “it works”, giving fans plenty to be excited about, even those with attention deficit disorders.
Blake Lewis’ A.D.D is out now. But here’s more, SheUnlimited is giving away free cd’s to some our lucky readers. Tell us why you think Blake could still very well be the “front runner” artist of today’s beatboxing arena in 150 words or less. Submit your entries at submissions@sheunlimited.com.
