Got Wood?

When I was a little tyke, I read a story about an old couple who were so committed to each other that the gods took pity on them and turned them into trees (the species of which escapes me) growing side by side on a picturesque hillside with their branches entwined so they can be together forever.
It’s a cute story, and one that every lover would (sort of) wish for in a bout of extreme starry-eyed romanticism. Unfortunately, mysterious deities no longer make trees out of people these days, so you might as well say goodbye to your dream of ever becoming a eucalyptus. Cheer up, though, because if you can’t BE one, WEAR one. Because wood seems to be the quintessential symbol of commitment, wedding, engagement, and promise rings of this material have gained quite a following (though, I suspect not from them tree worshippers).
So what makes wood rings special? Well, they’re unconventional, that’s for sure. This is perfect for those couples who scoff at anything bride-y or anything that screams wedding, but are going through it anyway. Another target demographic would also be people who are deathly afraid of being mugged and having their jewelry taken. Those who aren’t afraid of termites should be considered, as well.
FYI – no trees are being cut down to make these wood rings. There are no environmental laws violated, so take your picket signs elsewhere. These wood rings are all made from surplus wood with colorful past lives. It could’ve been a violin, or a window shutter. Or, if you’re lucky, maybe even a dentist.
