She Pods with Girls Can’t What?

Traci Kimone reporting in today with Gretchen from the wonderfully girly site “Girls Can’t WHAT!” I really enjoyed this because there are so many stereotypes still surrounding what girls can and can’t do. The site promotes girl empowerment and features women from different career paths doing a “man’s job.” It shows that women can take on these roles and still be feminine at the same time. Basically, the site encourages women to feel that “my job does not dictate whether or not I am a girl, or whether or not I am capable.” In this podcast, Gretchen, the founder of “Girls Can’t WHAT!”, tells us what inspired her to start this business.
Girls Can’t WHAT! is a site where girls can make themselves at home . Girls can tell us about their accomplishments, inspiring books they’ve read, places they’ve been to, and what fuels their passion. You will soon discover that there are many women out there that have the same interests and frustrations as you do. Get to know them, share your stories, and work out solutions together. Everyone is here for a reason. The reader can simply register, and once their account is approved, they can begin building their own personal support network. After all, girls have to stick together, so it pays to join the fastest growing women’s network on the web.
Gretchen Is not your traditional girl. You won’t find her in a dress picking flowers and talking about cute shoes. She shares, “I am most likely out doing something that someone said couldn’t be done. I was born and raised in small town in Central Illinois and I live about 30 minutes away from there now. I grew up in a neighborhood of all boys (except for my little sister) and I can throw a football and race BMX bikes with the best of them.
I played Little League baseball every summer, and in the 6th grade, I was one of two girls to make the boys’ basketball team. I played all kinds of sports until my sophomore year of high school when my family was hit by a drunk driver and my back was broken (long story). Shortly after recovering from my injuries, I started playing drums and I never stopped playing. After graduating from high school, I went to Millikin University where I graduated with a BS in Music Business.
Today I am married to a great guy, Doug, and we have two awesome daughters named Katelynn and Kirstynn. We also have the best dog in the whole world, a pug we named Quest. I still play drums and am currently in an all-girl band called Amplified417. Besides drumming, I like to workout, swim, play basketball, read, and play on the computer. I also volunteer as a youth and children’s leader at my church.
This website is my full-time job. This is basically a network, a community of girls and women from all walks of life and different career paths coming together to make a difference in each others’ lives, sharing gifts and career paths.”
